Read on to learn more about this big bad bruiser and his monstrous blade!

JET CYCLONE (B)

Leo briefly charges his blade before dashing to his target location, damaging and slowing enemies around him.

Overdrive: Slow duration increases at max rank.

LION’S MIGHT (Ultimate)

Leo briefly charges his blade then jumps in the target direction, damaging enemies in the area and empowering himself with Lion’s Might, granting additional effects on his other abilities. If there are enemy heroes near Leo,  he will use Lion’s Fury instead, shoving all enemy heroes in a target direction and stunning them before leaping to them and unleashing two great strikes on them.

  • Lion’s Might – Crushing Strike (A) – Deals bonus damage and causes enemies to bleed for 4s.
  • Lion’s Might – Jet Cyclone (B) – Deals bonus damage and roots enemies instead of slowing them.

So Long, Battle Pass, and Thanks for all the Sunlight

  • Vainglory
  • |
  • Mar 06, 2019

Let’s just jump into this. The current Battle Pass and its structure isn’t living up to your – the players’ – expectations. And honestly, it isn’t what we wanted the Battle Pass to be when we first set out to create it. Phew! Don’t we all feel better now that we said that out loud?

Ultimately, we tried to design a Battle Pass that was an easy decision players could make to add value and meaningful progression to their time playing Vainglory, but due to several factors including:

  • 3 months long and tied to seasons
  • 100 levels of specific rewards with no clear guidance on how to advance
  • Rewards being only relevant to a subset of players
  • Confusing Sunlight currency

as well as a large variety of currencies & items in the game that can and needed to be given as rewards, the playerbase understandably never viewed the Battle Pass as the slam-dunk decision we intended it to be. As a result we were left spending an inordinate amount of time and effort designing and maintaining a system that you, the players, simply didn’t engage with or find much value in.

As of Update 4.1, the current Battle Pass and Sunlight systems as we know them will not be renewed for Spring Season.

Moving forward, we’re updating our philosophy for the market. Look forward to seeing the market evolve under these principles:

  • Simple – understandable and clear.
  • Sleek – reduced visual clutter and nothing feeling out of place.
  • Consistent – reliable sales structure and explicit purpose for currencies.

Right now we’re working on a new direction to replace the former Battle Pass progression – stay tuned for more details!

  • UI UPDATES

    MATCH ACCEPT SCREEN

The oldest piece of UI in our game has finally been updated! The reason this took so long was simply due to priorities being elsewhere, and it is embarrassing to us that this screen actually managed to live through the entirety of the 3.x year of our game without being updated. We saw your feedback about updating that old, busted screen and we were able to get a fresh, new, streamlined Match Accept Screen in for you this release. Rejoice!

    NEW AND IMPROVED FRIENDS LIST

We’ve revamped the look of the friends list to be more reflective of the new Vainglory X style. We’re attempting to do a better job making sure that the entire Vainglory experience is more consistent than it has been. We have also rewritten the chat system in order to improve reliability.

3v3 Meta in 4.0

3v3 Meta

We’ve heard a lot of great feedback from players surrounding the 3v3 meta. In Vainglory 4.0 we’re looking to take some of those suggestions to make meta corrections that help prevent 3v3 from feeling so snowbally.

The Stormguard Stipulation

3v3 is already meant to be a quicker game mode than 5v5, but previously Stormguard still felt like a requirement. This ate up a lot of early gold and an early item slot. While we don’t want to eliminate Stormguard as an option, we’re lowering the armor and shield of jungle monsters to allow for other early game options to open up.

Kracking Down On Kraken

While the Kraken should still be a strong pushing force that helps close out matches, “The enemy team has captured the Kraken” shouldn’t automatically mean the end of the match. Thus, we’re tuning her down a notch so backfoot teams are able to defend / there are actual counterplay options when defending against the Kraken.

Down With Death Timers

Did face-checking that brush not end well? You were 18 minutes into that match, so probably not. And while that long death timer is deserved, it felt exceedingly punishing when this was an early death. Along with the changes above, we’re lowering death timers by about 30% early on in an effort to reduce the snowballiness of 3v3 matches.
